Women's rights and the renewal of religious thought
This version represents the final output of the Conference, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh under the title of "the rights of women between Shari’a and legislation - towards enhancing cooperation between religious and civil institutions," which includes the contributions of participants that have influenced the debate and revealed the divergence and convergence between religious institutions and civic institutions points, and even between visions of representing the same religious institutions. The reader will note that there is variation in the language and examples used at two levels:
- intellectual backgrounds between representatives of the Egyptian religious institutions and Islamist feminists level.
- between the various Arab countries vary in terms of intellectual and political contexts which in turn affected the Islamic intellectual heritage of these countries.
This is indicated by the editor of the book Dr. Yusri Mustafa, an Egyptian researcher and member of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Human Rights Fund, through the prelude.
The introduction of this book introduced the case of the Egyptian Foundation for Family Development, which fought individually for 4 years in order to discuss women's issues from a legal perspective and work with preachers and female preachers and imams of mosques to get to a middle zone between Shari’a and legislation at the level of people because the texts are consistent and impeccable, but the major problem lies for those who interpret the texts of the two sides as an experiment was done by the Executive Director of the Egyptian Foundation for Family Development Ms. Hala AbdulKader.
The papers contained in the book has been divided into several sections, depending on the topics have this division was as follows: -
Section I: women's rights from the perspective of Shari’a: Visions and assumptions

Section II: women's rights from the perspective of Islamic feminism
1. Islamic feminism stream: Knowledge and Reform Dr. Oumayma Abou Bakr - professor of English literature at Cairo University, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the WMF.
2. Women's citizenship between legislative and idiosyncrasies : the model of Saudi Arabian women- Dr. Hatun Ajwad Alfassi- associate professor in the history of women at Qatar University and the University of King Saud."
Section IV: Reporting and recommendations of the Conference
This section includes a general report and details of the conference discussions and working groups over 3 days which later resulted in a set of recommendations and proposals for action plans in both groups: pragmatic and systematic; these have been grouped under four headings:

- the production and circulation of knowledge
- Capacity Development
- advocacy and field activities
